I just listened to David Cohen talk about branding and am so impressed. Our small nonprofit has struggled to determine what it is we do–and yes, we are guilty of waiting for “the answer” before taking action sometimes. I hope you are able to write those books about small businesses and their need for branding with a limited budget. We need it.
I was confused about the Blank Stage Studios and Thrive America connection as you suggested David. I then realized exactly what the group is because I have visited The Artisan Resource Center many times and have seen the studio during open houses. I will stop by next time I visit.

I under stand the concept of “Leap, and grow your wings on the way down,” but how does one weigh the cost of a mistake. There is always risk, but taking the time to think of a perfict strategy helps eleminate that risk; however, also at a cost. Which is worse?

The idea is not to be reckless in your decisions, but I have found that moving too slowly because you’ve gotten caught up in trying to make things perfect, or you’re trying to suss out every angle and analyze every pitfall, tends to lead to missed opportunities. Better to decide ahead of time to allow a fixed amount of time for preparation (adjusted according to the complexity and speed of the opportunity), do what ever you can to make your best decision in the time you’ve allotted and then go for it! If it turns out to be a wrong move, chances are you’ll be able to make the necessary course corrections, but the opportunity won’t have passed you by.
